My 1st set of plants went down to Corn Seed Maggots so I'm running late this year. I'm not too worried about the new ones I'm putting in tomorrow BUT.. if I have to...when is the last date I could plant and still be alright? Mark

Mark-
it's all about fun. I planted in July one year. Still ended up with a nice orange pumpkin that was 198 pounds.

hi Milford,,,,,just wanted to add some advice, about your question ,,,,,to late depends if your taking a pumpkin to a weigh off ,,if so you need to find out when it is ,,,and depending upon that ,,,will determan,,,if your to late ,,,,but most of us growers ,,like to have pumpkins pollinated early july ,,no later then the second week of july,,,,idea date is from the 1st to the 6th,,no later then, the 12th, of july,,,,,but weather also, has a factor in pollination,,,,,,,,to hot ??not good!!to cold not good!!well hope this helps.ROB

Its not too late....but getting there. I found that anything started before the 20th usually catches up no problem.

Mark,
I started 8 extra plants as backups this year. Two are still not committed.
It's been so cool that you haven't lost much real growing time.

The problem is if you pollinate too late the pumpkin be in it's fast growth period during the cooler season of September. Fast growth and cold nights = split pumpkins.

The variable of this question depends on how our weather treats us, and here in colorado right now, I would say it is too late for any type of a competitive plant this late if you just started seeds. You could do a nice fruit though with some good care. The weather stinks for the next week..COLD.....Windy.. Tornado...Hail.....COLD...WET.. WET.. WET
