I use epsom salts but remember that it is hydrated so it is only 11% Mg. It is freaky to think that you are putting 10 lb down on a small patch but you have to realize that it is only 1.1 lb of Mg. In 10,000 lb of dirt, that is only raising the Mg by 100 ppm.

ill do that Dave, I do have one in my county here.

My Mg levels are good in my patch according to my soil samples, but in my other small garden area that was never tested this year is not far from my peach tree that has the Mg deficiency. The tree isnt but 50 yrds away from area that im planting all my gourds and small pumpkins in. So Id guess Im probably low on Mg in my garden aswell.

Thanks

Magnesium is more plant available as a foliar feed. You use less and it's more effective. Shoulda got Dunkel's Brooks! LOL

The best source of magnesium is a product called K-Mag or Sul-Po-Mag that comes from New Mexico. There are several variants of the material the analysis is usually 0-0-20K-10Mg-10S. It is a granular material often sold in the vegetable growing areas where Magnesium deficiency is common.

Magnesium can be deficient any time the level is lower than the Potash level in PPM. I have what is considered a high Magnesium level (305 ppm), but I apply some every year, because I continue to elevate my potash levels. I apply about 10 lbs/ 1000 ft2.

Foliar applied Magnesium with Epsom salts is an effective short term fix, but does nothing to deal with the underlying deficiency.
