I need some help this is the first time this has happened to me. I brought my seedlings outside every day to get some sun and air before I put them in the dirt. They were doing great good and strong not leggy at all. I planted them in the dirt and we had a bit of a hot spell the days after I planted them. Well the cots are looking fine but the darn first leaves on most of the plants seemed to have burnt or shrivled up. I have back ups ready but is there any chance theyll come back to life. There still getting taller but Im really worried I dont want my best seeds to die I worked hard for them and a lot of good growers hooked me up. Is there any chance for them or is it over are they dead. Help!!!!!!!

Most likely UV Burn. It will over come this shortly shade the new growth if possible. Until it is able to take care of itself.

Thanks for the reply it just stinks ya do so much to take care of them and then this happens. My girlfreind works at a greenhouse and tells me theyll be fine but Im still getting back ups ready. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen to their babies as I call them?

Not hardening them off happens all the time. Even plants grown in the greenhouse tranfered outside get burnt on really sunny days. Not a problem in Wisconsin today as we are smoke covered from the Minnesota fires.

Jason, I just had a couple baby boos( gourds) die on me a couple days after I planted them outside. I even harden them off for a couple days for 2 or 3 hours. The plants just wasnt mature enough yet to be set out in the hot sun all day.
