Does anybody have any experience with "Dill's AG seeds" bought from lowes or home depot. Can these seeds actully produce the big one if grown right? Also, I am new to giant pumpking growing, I am in the process of preparing my patch right now from what info. i gather off the site the common thing is to dig a hole about 3ft deep and fill it with manure and compost then plant the seedling over that area... I would appreciate any advice. What is the best mix i can put in the hole? should i use any fertilizer? how often should i water the seedling?
Thanks alot for the help.

There's lots of growers in the western PA and eastern OH area that I'm sure would be willing to help get you started. Snoop around the site looking under the locations and you'll find some! Get some different seeds though, sounds like Glenn has you fixed up there.

The Lowe's seeds are almost the same size as AG seeds I have seen in packs that are traded. They probably would work. I saw some packaged Dill AG seeds in Chritmas Tree Shops. They were smaller than the typical AG seed. The company is out of Cape Cod. If Ocean State Job Lots starts selling them I will start to think there is something going on in Rhode Island, especially if the package states 1068" or "1502" (not that I would tell anyone until I got mine)
Seriously, if you get hooked, join one of the many clubs and hold on for the ride.

I honestly believe that any pure AG seed has the potential to produce a monster..I have always said.. you could take the best seed there was and plant it in a rock pile and you wouldnt have much of a pumpkin..but any AG with the right conditions would produce a giant..

Erik, I would NOT put a bunch of manure in a pit, it you have some aged 2-3 years, I might mix 75% native soil and 25% AGED manure/compost and mix. Then come this fall, you will have read enough on this site to know what to do to prep for next year.
