A freind asked me what the downsides of growing a pumpkin directly on a pallet. He was going to take care of the pallet slats by putting something on it. What do you see as the downsides?

Creek, Myself I just dont like the idea, every hear of a 1000lber grown on a pallet?

Then you gotta get a forklift into your patch to hoist it. A forklift in my patch would sink at least a foot and you would never get it out!

Not a good idea in my book either. The pumpkin could grow big enough that once it reaches the pallet edge, it could become a big problem if not kept secure along those edges. There were a couple big pumpkins that split where the pumpkin & styrofoam edge met during the past couple seasons. I imagine it would be worse with a pallet underneath it. Just my thoughts.
