I have a soil warming cable I want to use for the first time. Is the best way to use it is to place the cable in a circular pattern where the plant will go? Is it important not to let the cable touch itself?

i have not used them myself, but from what i read do an S pattern, let the cable get about 3" apart, yes put around where the main will be planted
