Are you close to a VA hospital,or other facility servicing vets? Please consider growing a nice orange pumpkin for them. Or you may know of a vet recovering at home -- same thing. Regardless of what we may think about the war, we all support the troops -- this is a very small thing you could do to show your appreciation.

very nice suggestion. id also like to add that it would be a very nice thing to get some of the local nurshing home or orphan home residents to bring those capable to see a giant pumpkin weigh off.

Years ago I was involved with the VA Hospitals as a vendor. At that time there was a central "go to" office for grounds related procurement. It might be possible to make this offer via that office for greater penetration & to remove some of the "fear factor" some folks have when approaching a large institution.
Let me poke around here Monday & see if I have a name or phone number or something.

As early as 1985 we took a pickup & trailer load to Buffalo's Children's Hospital - about a dozen big ones (3-400 lb) for back then. Was a good show for the kids.
