On the extended forecast starting today the average in my area is suppose to be 77 high and low 53 degrees up to Monday the 14th. Do you think the dangers for frost is over for us Ohio guys that are near my area or in my state? How many other growers in different parts of the world still have frost to worry about?
This year I started a week later then last year to try to avoid running electric to my hoops to keep things warm and also because my pumpkins have quit growing on me a couple weeks before weigh off. I hope this is a good move on my part. Seems like the plants I set out with out any hoops will later 'ALWAYS' catch up to the ones I had in hoops, maybe the hoops are a waste of time and just more work. I dunno though.

Brooks,
May 15th is the generally accepted date of the last frost danger here in central Ohio. Those of us who plant by May 1st don't have the luxury of a two-week extended forecast and erect structures to safeguard aginst it. Sure, it's a pain, but it sure beats losing that which we have planned for since last year's weigh-off. My hoops will stay up until June 1.

Brooks, Not really sure about this but I believe July 4th is around our last expected day for frost up here. Which is good because we don't usually see our first fall frost until labor day. LOL John

Like clockwork we get a frost somewhere around 5/15- 5/25. Last year we had 2 frosts 5/22 and 5/23. Had to cover 40 mater plants that were trellised! GRRRRR!

Oh yea, protected without a doubt, I'm gonna leave my mini green house up over it until at least June 1st like pumpkindude,Im not taking any chances with the 1068.
I have three plants( 1068,805,1180) outside right now in cold frames, the rest go out tomorrow and the next day.I just cant bring myself to plant a proven seedling out without anything over it. When I look at it all lonely sitting out there with no protection in all that empty space its kinda like your leaving it to the wolves, Ha!
