Today I got permission to use a vacant plot at the community garden where I grow all my pumpkins. It is 15 ft wide and 35 ft long (525 sq. ft.) This means I can grow an extra pumpkin.
I will grow the seed that gets picked most by those who are friendly enough to reply within the next 24 hrs. I will cross it (if possible) with the 1093 Hunt (1068 x 842). Which 1068 cross would you choose?
1044 PRIVITERA (1068 Wallace 03 x 1260 Weir 02) 986 PAPEZ 06 (1058 Papez 04 x 1068 Wallace 03) 721 NOEL 05 (1068 Wallace 03 x 1104.5 Hester 03) 695 SANDVIK 06 (500 Wallace 03 x 1068 Wallace 03) 546 ZAYCHKOWSKY 06 (898 Knauss 01 x 1068 Wallace 03) 511 ZAYCHKOWSKY 06 (1260 Weir 02 x 1068 Wallace 03 505 WILLITON 06 (1068 Wallace 03 x 1446 Eaton 04) 467 ZAYCHKOWSKY 06 (1068 Wallace 03 x 898 Knauss 01) 398 ZAYCHKOWSKY 06 (723 Bobier 99 x 1068 Wallace 03)

I have a really good feeling about the 505 Williton 06. The grandparents on the father's side are all 723/846 which should be a great addition to the 1068 in my opinion. The 505 was grown way north in Newfoundland and is a PB for Bill. Lots of potential and maybe a good choice for the cooler climate in the Netherlands.

Wow, this a tough choice. I pick the 546 Zaychkowski. It will put more 898 genetics in the cross.

I'll bet I cast the lone vote for this one: the 467. The 898, in my opinion, is the best pollinator ever. Something really good in that seed.

Well, I'm going to shoot myself in the foot here, but Honestly, if your planning to cross it with the 1093 Hunt, then, I would have to go with the 505 Williton, Reason, 50% 1068, 25% 842 Eaton, and 25% 1446 Eaton, or in otherwords, 75% world record producer, 25% world record. Second choice would be my 511. Eddy

I was dubbing about the 505 (for the reason Eddy stated) and 467 (for the reason giantpumpkindude stated) myself but the 1044 has the most votes by far. I actually had the 1044 on my "definate" list for 2008, so it was definately going to get planted.
Can anyone explain why the 1260 is such a good choice?

Eddy, I hope to cross the 1093 with the 1446 Eaton you generously supplied me with.

Brad, the 1260 will usually grow real heavy pumpkins, some say the best pollinator out there. I also think the generations down the road the offspring produces real nice orange pumpkins, have no idea why with the kuhn in the back ground ,but it does.

Shameless plug here. 986 Papez(1058 Papezx1068 wallace) The 1058 is 898 Knaussx 1260 weir. Heavy genetics on the grandparents. lol

I like the 505 Williton, 986 Papez or Eddy's 511. All have the potential to produce big & heavy. Good luck with your choice Brad & thanks again for giving my 1093 a chance.
Phil
PS. I'm hearing good things from a couple other growers growing my 1093. Even Jane's (my wife) 1093 was sprouting roots in less than 36 hrs.

Sandvik or Papez.
Sandvik because its all 1068 genetics basicly, the pollinator went over 1000 and I think it would make a good cross with the 1093.
Papez as the second choice because it has good seeds in its hierarcy tree but mostly because it looks like the pollinator went over 1200!

I would plant the top three choices and see which looked best at set out time. They all look good on paper. But even my first 1446 this year didn't sprout. Seven out of seven of my 505 sprouted but still too early to say how well they wiill look come cut off time.Good luck with whatever you decide. Bill W.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have planted the 1044 Privitera. Thanks for that seed Tom.
The second I found the 505 Williton in the GVGO package something said I should plant it, so maybe next year.
