Oh you have to tell.....I've only done the planting thing for 2 years. My dumbest thing was asking which way the seed went into the pot. Hope it wasn't a really good one. And good luck with the next try.

Greg,
Were you soaking the seed in the toilet, and flushed it down? Just a guess.

Last year I used a really old sprayer my wife had with her first, to foliar spray. Had not been used for 7+ YEARS. I rinsed and rinsed good.... was streched for cash and it was a nice sprayer.... .....it only took 1 day to figure out what ever it had inside was not good for pumpkin leaves.....I was told, but I didnt believe, now I believe.

I think this is the perfect post for Brook's story about the time he stuck a pin through a 1097 seed.

Nice post Greg. My dumb happened just last week. Crushed a 1097. I thought the paper towel that I had been soaking my seeds in was empty but no I wasn't paying attention and crunched the 1097

One year I used an old gibberellic acid formulation at the correct rate on an 845 Nesbit & a 707 Toftness. The bottle was old & had no label. The weather was cool so I got very little response. Getting nervous, I called the manufacturer rep (friend of mine) who checked his old records for the product & informed me that I had used 1/4 of the correct dose. Hmm...no wonder.

Next day (warmer) I applied my buddies recommended dose. Later the same day the leaves were reaching for the sky & the vine elongation was VISIBLE! Jeremy called me the following day to explain he had made a mistake - my prior rate was correct. So I had now made the equivalent of 5 applications in less than 72 hours.

4-6 feet of vine growth per day was common for a week!

The plants responded with all male flowers for 6 weeks. I didn't see a female until the vine was 45 feet long. I didn't get a fruit to set on the 707 until it the main was 55 feet long but by then it was late August.

The 845 developed a strange knob on the end of the main & never grew again all year. The 707 grew like mad. I ended up turning it 180 degrees back on itself to keep it on my property. Chopped all of the secondaries on the inside of the curve.

Pictures of that fiasco are in one of my diaries.

I was going to wait till Thrusday, but decided no will top what i did, or at least fess up to it.
Here is what i did. I was trying to decide between a 901 Cole or a 1069.5 Zunino to start. I just fliped a coin and went with the Zunino. I sanded it down to get it ready to soak.
I started all of my other seeds using 20 oz. water drinking bottles. I mixed up a solution of peroxcide and water. I put the seed in and tighten the lid down real good.
I put the bottle over on the heat mat im using for my other plants. This was about midnite and I was getting sleepy. I got a fresh bottle of water out of the icebox to drink during the nite when I was thirsty I took the one put it next to the bed with me. I woke up in the middel of the nite. I took a drink of the water went back to sleep.
I went to work at 5:30 AM, came home for lunch at 11:30 Am
I went to take the seed out of the bottle, it was gone. I looked every where for it. Then I figured out I dranked it. Man how stupid can you be. Ya it went down the drain alright mine!! I just can,t believe i did that

I was poking holes through a bag that held my starter seed so they wouldnt sweat?, I really dont know what I was thinking to tell you the truth. But I thought I dumped the seed out of the bag, but my 1097 Beachy was stuck in the corner and I didnt know it and poked a hole right through the center of the seed, it still grew to
845 lbs.(I need to start poking more holes in my seeds I think)
