My plants are still in pots and have gotten to point where I NEED to transplant them in the patch tomorrow.
After a couple weeks of 80 to 90 degree day temps and high 50's to 60 degrees night temps we are supposed to have a change tomorrow that will last for about 3 to 4 days. Forecast is for highs 68 to 70 and lows in the upper 40's. Will the plants survive ok in the patch with these temps if I don't have a hoop house over them?

Mark, plants should be fine depending on "if" you have hardened them off at this point. With that said, I would get them planted and do a little extra protection at night. Cover with a tote or box and have a couple gallon jugs of warm water in with them,,these will hold the temp or at least temper it so there is less stress from the differencial.

I actually prefer transplanting anything when it's a little cooler if that is any solice.

Thanks Dan, I have my grow light on a timer which goes off at night for 9 hours. My basement temps are cool 60 to 65 degrees so I hope that helps as sort of a hardening off process.

Harden off also with wind too and sun, cover your precious. Mine will stay outside for a couple of days being moved around then I will use a wire cage around the plants and cover with an old bath towel around the cage and over the top. Ill wet the towel to help with humidity, the towel blocks alot of light and wind until the roots can establish themselves in their new area, over the next week I give them more and more sun, more and more wind. I like to transplant at dusk after the heat of the day, that way they have all night to get their roots in order for the next days heat. Hope this helps

Id just cover them at night with foam coolers. Im also in the south and temps are sussposed to stay fairly warm not as much need for hoop houses like up north. I have twelve plants and I only have about four hoop houses its just not that much of a factor in the south.
