Subject: Raised hill or flat service

While reviewing John Holland video tape "Land O Giants Instructional Tape" a segment showed the young seedling being transplanted to a flat surface in the hot house. In Don Langevin's book " How to grow World Class Giant Pumpkins" it say's that they should be planted in a raised hill. Don explains the advantages of the raised hill but John gave no explanation why he was planting them on a flat surface. Does any one have an answer to this question.

i'm thinking that he did all his soil prep down deep digging in 2-3 feet and amending the soil to make a rich soil pool or drainage isn't a problem like in a sandy loam
