I tried to germinate a couple of 892 Dill seeds on 4/12. Neither germinated. I kept the soil temp at exactly 85 degrees with just the right amount of moisture. Every other seed has germinated for me beautifully within 3-5 days. Has anyone else had a problem with this seed? If it is a dud I would have to assume that for some reason the embryo wasn't viable. The seed looked to be mature and nicely filled out. I believe one seed had a real decent sized crack in the seed coat. The other may have also had a real small crack in it. Is this the cause of this? I would be interested in how other growers are making out with the germination of this seed. I don't really question the germination technique because other than the 892 I went 14 for 14 with my germination. I can't complain about that.

Moon, I have germinated many seeds with cracks in them without a problem, but as far as the 892 germinating for you it could be any number of things, sorry you couldnt get it going, its just something that happens.

The 1407 Wolf I have had a big split in center seed coat and it roared out in 24 hours. Split seed coats are not a problem, stay with them.. "Split happens".

First never make a post about someones seed being a dud. Feelings can get hurt from such a word. I have never known anyone to trade, give away, or sell seeds that they know are duds. Except a few shady characters trading. Howard and Danny are in the seed business they don't sell seed they don't think will produce. In Nature some seeds will fail to germinate this is the risk we take when we try planting seeds.

my 892 Dill had a crack on the seed coat and it germinated fine.
but i lost her due to a cut on the stem (which was my fault).
Rocky,Brooks & Shannon's post are right on the money.

plus as a side note i have 100% germinating rate with Dill seeds.

I am sorry if I hurt any ones feelings with this post, that certainly wasn't my intention. I am disappointed that the seeds did not germinate.
