I personally feel that selfed seeds are underrated in the performance category. Who has selfed seeds in their lineup this year?
This year we're putting in my 792 Wolf (selfed 1407)

Hello Andy, I will be putting in some selfed seeds this year. These are the seeds i will be trying. 814wolf (1407wolf X self) 792wolf (1407wolf X self) both fruit from same plant 1010christopherson06dmg (1446eaton X self) 1075christopherson (1446eaton X self 1225pukos (1231pukos X self)
The selfed plants that i have growing so far are very nice plants but when it all comes down to it, we will be weighing the pumpkin. Maybe the pumpkin growing community needs a challenge. If each grower puts one selfed seed in, then maybe that will give us an idea if selfed seeds really can compete. That would be interesting.
Bye the way your plants are doing fantastic. I'll send some pics later.

I am planting my own 1104(1247 handy X self). I hope that it performs as well as or better than the 1104 plant did.

I've started one of my 114's which is 723 Bobier selfed for 2 generations, coincidentally it will be competing against a couple of 420 Wolfs for a place in the patch. Time will tell.

I'm planting the 834* Gadberry (895* Hester x self) and the 521* Andrews (834* Gadberry x self) this year.
I am in total agreement. I think that the reason that they don't see as much dirt is that they aren't as "interesting". BUT, maybe interesting shouldn't be what we are after....I think we should be chasing characteristics that we like.....how better to do that than by planting selfed or sibbed seeds.
I'd be interested to know how many generations selfed (or sibbed) are out there....for example:
521* = 834* x self 834* = 895* x self 895* = 900 Lyons x sib
Who's growing the seed which has been selfed/sibbed the most generations?

946.5* Carlson and Peterson... its a 1086* C&P x selfed which is a 552* Sherwood x selfed which is a 889* Hester x sibbed which is the 900* Lyons sibbed... So I think the 946.5* is one step farther than the 521* mentioned above.

Andy I may not be growing any selfs this year, but I agree.....crossing two different selfed seeds can lead to awesome genetics..you are doubling up on the great traits...take the 1225 Pukos.....selfed and 735 Pukos selfed...cross those two.....would be interesting....

The majority of the 18 varieties that I'm growing this year are from selfed/inbred lines - a few are 4th and 5th generation selfed..They will all have at least one selfed 'kin each this year (deepen the inbreeding).
Have two crosses represented: the 300 Peck pear - 572 Moore X 572 Bosworth and the 300+ Peck Football - 572 Bosworth X 572 Moore... Same cross - but different in whom the male and female were..

BTW - I'm ALWAYS interested in more varieties of selfed GPs... The more that can be grown and genetically preserved - the better for future research endeavors...

I am planting the following selfed seeds 1185 Leonard, 1131 Timm, and 1355 Marion. And hopefully pollinating each with the 1450 Wallace. Self by sib crosses should be interesting.
