Hello fellow growers: Having grown many pumpkins from large parents, and having had limited sucess. I wonder if the reason that the offspring did'nt do as well is because I failed to acurately recreate all the same conditions in which the parent plant was grown in. (soil pH., sunlight, fertilizer, water, tilth etc.) and that the offspring seeds expect the same or better conditions than their parents. It's hard to compete with World Class Growers! Any thoughts on this?

Gads!
I, too, have pondered many a time, on how the seeds I planted would do in the patches of LaRue, Holland, Mombert, Mettler, Hester, Checkon, Stellpflug, Stelts,(and anyone else I've missed that has excelled in this field!)On the other hand I've wondered how their plants would have done in my patch! Too bad we can't set up a "patch" swap! One could never recreate some conditions (such as weather),which would be impossible to do even in your own patch from one year to the next! I guess we just have to do the best we can with what we have and are capable of. Revel in the fact that you grew a big pumpkin and strive to beat your own personal best. Try as we may, only one person gets to hold the World or State record at a time!
Good Luck!

that's a good question i think it comes down to being consistant the heavy hitters have learned over time that good soiland seed are a big percentage of the big one but being able to know how to read your plant andgive it what it needs right then is the answer maybe with good bookkeeping we to can figure out what and how much the plant needs to get the most out of it
