I have been lucky enough to be given seeds from some other growers at bigpumpkins here, I just have a question, I'am new/begginer. Lets say these seeds are different kinds, they just had left over, I get lucky and have a giant, big pumpkin. If these seeds are unmarked, no i.d., will they be identifyable, I mean if their that big you might want to know where they came from. Thanks

Regardless of the parents, if you grow a 1503 lb pumpkin this year the seeds you pull out of it will forever after be know as the 1503 fogsurfer '07.

Am I reading the question correctly?

There wouldnt be anything to stir things up more than a 1500 lb pumpkin grown from a seed from unknown genetics.

Last year was my first year and I threw away my seed packets after I planted them. Who knew I needed to keep the packet with the writing on it, besides I didn't know what the writing was. After spending about 20 minutes on this site I realized what a mistake I made. You need to to label your plants with what seed they are from. And then at pollenation time you need to keep track of that too. When you grow a big one, everyone wants to know who it came from and what genetics it has. Good luck to you!! Hope I was some help.

Fogsurfer, seeds are seeds but it would be wise to not distrubute those seeds or offspring from those seeds if you dont know what the background is. If you need some seeds with the seeds history i will gladly get some to you. I only live about 40 minutes from you. They might not be the best in the area but at least you know the seeds history. Just let me know if you would like some.

I'm having a few sent to me, I don't know they have any history, I did buy 5 from bill foss, those have there linage, ancester, papers, registered with the club, have been asigned a family crest, coat of arms, I also have people wanting seeds now that I'm doing it, it sounds fun to them, and my wife signed us up for gardeners at my sons school, and guess what, were having a pumkin patch of some sort.

This is a great site to find out the seed's family tree.
