My patch this year is 20 feet wide and 200 feet long, how many plants would you think this would handle and where do you think I should plant them?? I fed about 40 round bales there this winter so it has plenty cow manure and rotted hay..thanks!

I think seven plants would fit nicely....about 570 sq. ft./plant. 20' X 28.5'(approx.). You could grow either 20' in length or width. I'd lean toward 20' width, 28.5' length.

With that much land, I sure hope you plant that 1082 MacKinnon and give it a nice spot...would love to see a PB for you this year.
Your huge patch can handle, as mentioned, more than a six pack of plants and that is alot of time and effort!! I just could not manage that now with my schedule (and also don't have that much land) but will cheer you on all the way.

I'd go with 6 plants. You'll want to have room in between the plants to work on vine burying, weeding & other maintenance of your plants. Less plants also means you can give more attention to the others. 7 plants are also a lot of work & you'll need lots of water to keep them all happy.

7 max. id allow 25 ft width for each plant plus a five ft space starting between plant 1 and 2 and ending between plant 6 and 7 ( additional air flow ) 20 ft length is enough for main plus you can always turn it back inside of patch if need be. if you do it right seven plants is a lot of work, and is a high enough number to hit on a couple good pumpkins. pap

Its right next to a creek, i'm going to run a electric pump from the creek to water with, one thing I though of, If I go with 8 and plant them back to back, 4 of those circle sprinklers should do the job, I can till a extra 5' on the side to make it 25' width. Glenn, do I have a 1082 MacKinnon?? If so..i'll sure plant it, send me a email and let me know where its at..lol..thanks!!

I'm not looking for all 800 pounders and like to have a lot of more manageable pumpkins to give out, what are you guys getting per vine?
