I can remember back when I was a kid growing up with my grandparents my grandfather always talking about what the almanac and what it would say. He would go by this book like he would his bible it seemed like and every time someone would talk about the weather with my grandfather the Almanac would always come into the conversation.

I never really payed much attention to this book or really realized how much my grandfather talked about the almanac until I met my neighbor last year who is a long time farmer that is roughly 80 years young, and he also talks about this book alot.
I have noticed every time I talk to him about the weather , he would more then likely bring up the Almanac. So this made me curious so I started to read it.
Now getting off the subject for a second, Another thing my neighbor always does is carry a little notebook tablet in his front shirt pocket that measures the rain that he himself measures in each month of the year. The notebook that he carried with him went back to 2001, He told me his other notebooks that are full are at home, and he has measured rain fall like this every month since the early 70's. Why?,,,, I really don't know.

Any who, how many believe in the Almanac and how close did it come to your weather this month so far? here is the link

http://www.farmersalmanac.com/weather/weather.html

just click on the region where you live and it will give you April and Mays weather predictions.

Amazing how close if not exact it came to predicting the weather where I live, HOW DO THEY DO THAT???

Brooks in Eastern PA due to the recent storm and colder temps the almanac has not done well thus far. The first problem is that they group VA, MD, and PA with all of the other northern states. Obviously we are having very different weather than VA is here in PA, and of course the same thing goes for Maine.

Does anyone have a quick link for a list of the latest spring frost dates over the last 100 years or so? I've been searching for a while and never found one.

BB,
I am a firm believer in the spring peepers. Add 6 weeks to the day when they first start peeping, and this will be the day of the last hard frost in your area. I have done this for over 10 years now, and am usually within 24 hours of being dead on, although they may have started peeping a day before I heard them! The peepers told me last frost will be on May 9.
