This is so sad, Tyler was asking about it and he doesn't understand why people would do such a thing. Even us grown ups don't understand, how do you explain it to a child? How do you even know where it is safe to send your children to college, this world is becoming harder and harder to live in everyday. My prayers go out to the families and friends of those lost today.

My good friend is okay thank the lord. There is a difference between terrorism and insanity. At least the terrorists believe they are doing something good, no matter how F'd up their idea of "good" is. This was an act of pure evil by a very mislead individual. Burn in Hell you piece of crap.

A very sad day in American history. May God hold the families affected close to Him and Bless the souls of those that lost their lives, except the gunman of course.

Perhaps the madman from Texas, and those fools in congress will shift some of the PORK to REAL safety of schools. That will not happen untill some ivy league/etc school gets hit buy a nutjob student.
High schools and govt buildings have metal detecters, etc, to screen for guns.

Mcpumpkin why do you always have to ruin so many posts by bringing up your twisted political point of view? This is a lone evil person acting on his own. It is a rare event. That is why it has shocked us all so much. It has nothing to do with President Bush or Congress. If you think it does then you are so far out there that it amazes me. Yes amazes me even after reading all your other semi-comprehensible nonsensical rambling posts. Perhaps one you will realize that in this place called America "the land of the FREE" the government can't stop one evil person from committing an evil act. To do so would mean that we wouldn't be the "land of the FREE" anymore. Why don't you grow up, get over this Bush hatred/political obsession of yours and get on with your life. Try doing something good or positive for a change. Try helping a friend, neighbor, volunteering at the local elderly home or something like that... It might help your obviously cankered soul. May God comfort and bless those who are truly in need at this time. My thoughs and prayers go out to them.

I think it is inappropriate to use the deaths of 32 or 33 young americans to voice your political opinions on a website dedicated to Giant Pumpkins and other large vegetables.
There are probably hundreds of websites for politics.
I find your post offensive: Bob Attaway

As a legal permanent U.S. resident, Cho had the same rights as a citizen for the purposes of buying and possessing firearms. In Virginia, a green card holder must establish that he has been a resident of the state for at least 90 days by providing a valid photo ID plus documentation such as a utility bill or lease.
THIS IS WHAT I FIND OFFENCIVE. ........................................................... There is one word that I could type that could express this.

Getting back to the subject.... Now that the names and faces of the victims are appearing, the real hurt that this maniac has inflicted on everyone involved is coming clear. My heart goes out to them and their saddened families. Maybe the discussions from the Monday morning quarterbacks could hold off for just a while until the dust settles. I am sure anyone that had the power to stop this would have done so given the chance.

Academia has a tendency to externalize responsibility & make it that of an institution or government. Some fruitcakes will try to take this off Cho & place the responsibility onto the school's administration or government. To "protect" several thousand students in a free society would impunge their liberties beyond the value.
The way to be safe is never to be secure.

What makes it even harder is that some of his teachers and students knew he had mental health problems and could not get him to go to counseling. Pray for all the families.

Thank you, Ed, for starting this post. As a Virginia Tech graduate I am just devastated. Though I don't know any of the victims, last week my brother interviewed one of the engineering students who was killed. My brother's company was preparing to offer him a job.
Hokie Hope...show your support on Friday, even if you are not a "Hokie"
Virginia Tech family members across the country have united to declare this Friday, April 20th, an “Orange and Maroon Effect” day to honor those killed in the tragic events on campus Monday, and to show support for Virginia Tech students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and friends. “Orange and Maroon Effect” was born several years ago as an invitation to Tech fans to wear orange and maroon to Virginia Tech athletic events. We invite everyone from all over the country to be a part of the Virginia Tech family this Friday, to wear orange and maroon to support the families of those who were lost, and to support the school and community we all love so much.

So glad to see that for a brief moment in time everyone can be a Hokie. I pray that now the families and students can grieve and remember their loved ones, hopefully, away from the glare of the media. You are right Ed, even rival UVA Hoos can be Hokies at a time like this http://themovingcastle.com/journal/?p=464
Words of wisdom for all of us to live by: “If we don’t meet again, your final assignment from me is perhaps the most important lesson you will learn in life. Go to your mother, father, brothers and sisters and tell them with all your heart how much you love them. And tell them that you know how much they love you too. Go out of your way to make good memories…At some point these memories may be all you have left. May God bless you all.” – Professor Bryan Cloyd’s e-mail to his students. His daughter, Austin, was one of the students killed on Monday.

Good words Monica. Live every day as though it were your last. One of them will be.
Stephen & I wore orange & maroon today. The kids are off from school (spring break) so we've been together all week. Today on of the girls in the Post Office called him over & explained she is a VT grad & her daughter & a younger sibling are students at VT now. One of them was in the 2nd building at the time of the shooting but both were spared. They lost friends but not their faith.
