Ok, I got a little over-excited with the Merit yesterday. I applied the Bayer 1.47% concentration, just in the pit where I'll plant in a week.
I soaked in almost an ounce of pesticide in the pit. So if the recommended dosage is 8.7 ounces per 1000 square feet, I figure I put in 10 times that rate - but only in the 10 square feet of the actual pit.
Tremor, I know you'll say I didn't gain anything by doing that. But do you think I hurt anything? I could still move a bit of dirt around and dilute it, since I haven't planted yet.
Thanks for any help folks! john

Last year I misread the label and put 3 tbs instead of 3 tsp per 1000 sq ft.That's 9 times the recommended mix. I spoke to Tremor and he said it shouldn't be a problem. I did'nt notice any ill effects.

I first have the responsibility to scold you both for not being more careful.
Now the good news. Neither of you holds the record for over application of Merit. A grower applied the granular material at 16 times the label rate last year. I'm not sure how he eventually finished but the Merit caused no damage to the plants.

Thanks folks. I slept better last night after reading your responses.
Millford, I was telling my wife about your message and it hit me: you used Tbs. in place of Tsp, so you really were 3x too heavy, not 9x.
Yes yes, I'm chastized Tremor... I just... hate those little grubs so bad... I don't want them dead, I want them pulverized into tiny atoms. Maybe now that I've had your brand of professional help, I need to see a psychiatrist and try to get a hold on my violent nature.

This may sound even harsher....but here goes anyway. (I've never been known to hold back....)Ready?... Because of bone-head moves like yours by people like you, everyone here where I live has to have a 400plus dollar pesticides licence that required a 40 hour class and constant updating (at big $). We have to notify the 5 adjacent nieghbors 48 hours in advance of any application of basically ANYTHING (lime, seaweed, milk, pesticides....)and post all over the property with placards. We have to have --at anyone's wishes- and onsite all the msds and paperwork for anything we apply. That means the guy throwing handfulls of lime too. Its partly because of people LIKE YOU that we have to do this. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW IT. If its too complicated then ask...Steve is awesome in helping. The 1-800 numbers are there or readily available too. Stop screwing it up for everyone and everyone's grandchildren who drink the water.......Thankyou and have a good day.

I would say Glenn is in a good mood. No cursing, name calling, or off the wall remarks. He is just saying the label says clearly how much to use.

Wow, that's why we still refer to the disagreement we southerners had a while back with our yankee friends as "The War of Northern Agression"!
LOL, just joking Glenn, I'm not offended...
... but then again my overdose consisted of six tenths of a tablespoon of the weak (1.47 percent) Bayer formulation, which is equal to less than four hundredth's of a teaspoon of the 75% power. Maybe I could be let off the hook just this once with a couple of hours of sitting in the corner for punishment!

john I don't think it is your fault ... or ever the fault of others who have done similar things ... I believe it glenns fault and all the other people that live in his area. Appearantly they are the ones who started all this ... someone complained to someone else and it went on from there. I guess we could also blame the government ... they are the ones who took peoples complaining and made them laws and regulations- right? then again we could blame President Bush ... he's the head of the government so the buck stop with him- right? and lots of people are blaming him for lots of things these days... and come to think of it he's probably watching glenn spray illegal stuff on his patch right now via satalite. hummm...what to do ... what to do ... Even though it's a tough choice for me I think I'll still give my vote directly to g himself.

Oh man bad news. I went out to assess the damage this evening. I don't have a grower diary but I posted pictures at jhatcher.blogspot.com if anybody cares...
I can't figure out if GW is to blame or Hillary maybe, but I think you're right about me being an innocwnt bystander gordon.

John,
I think you should sue McDonald's while you're at it. They are secretly ferrying millions via illegal immigrant labor to the Germans who funded Bayer's research & development team. The deviant Bayer people are hell bent on killing all of the microbes in US soil by confusing Americans into making gross over applications of pesticides & forcing us to drink hot coffee made by more illegal immigrants who secretly want you to burn your lap. This is quite a conspiracy. It's Glenn's fault too. He probably even LIKES their lousy coffee.

Hey I just purchased a 2oz bottle of Merit. Is the bottle only supposed to be a little over half full?? I don't have an easy and accurate means of weighing it. Thanks Spudley.
