Find a mushroom plant! Around here certain contractors have "exclusive rights" to all the compost generated by the plant. They in turn offer it for sale!

theres a mushroom farm in ct......franklin farms i think? i cant remember, but they sell to the public twice a year, spring and fall, call ahead and ask...okay i had to satisfy my curiosity for remembering things...it is actually franklin farms.....here's the number (860) 642-3000

please be carefull and do not over do it with the mushroom compost. a little goes a long way.

Uh huh....Gotta watch out for salts. Check to see that the material has sat outdoors for a length of time. Also start some bean seeds in a small pot of the stuff. If they die you'll have reason for concern. If they don't you'll have a decent amendment.

Beans germinate quickly & are fairly sensitive. Hence in a few days he will know the rough salt status without a costly test.
