After many sleepless nights and crazy pumpkin dreams thinking about genetics, one of the crosses I am considering for this year is

1010 Hester (898 Knaus x 845 Bobier)
with
604 Bosworth (1068 Wallace x 1469 Checkon)
and reverse.

Any opinions?

I have room for two competition plants and about four genetics plants.

I'll be growing a 699 Bosworth (1260 Weir x 1370 Rose) also.

Which ones to use for competition and which one to put in the genetics patch?

Well if it was me, I would grow the 699 Bos as your #1 plant, ans as for a cross, it would be the 699 X 1010 and reverse.
Reason I would do this, is because the 1260 Weir, is a 845 bobier X 846 calai, and the 1370 Rose, is the 1260 Weir X 712 Kuhn.
The 712 Kuhn, is one of the best pollinator seeds around, as is the 898 Knauss.
The 845 Bobier and the 846 Calai are both great as the mothers of many a great cross.
In my opion, you would be combining the traits of 2 seeds, with the traits of 2 of the best Pollinators out there.
Result, a potential world record breaking cross.

Eddys idea sounds excellent to me.
I think the 699 Bosworth would be a good cross for a color seed as well. Like 981 Zunnio x 699 Bosworth

Wonderful! Just the info I was looking for. Thanks!

My son will probably be growing the 981 Zunio this year in his patch. Maybe I'll lend him some pollen for a good cross. This will be his very first AG plant. He has grown many different vegetables and flowers before and he's a natural at it. The only thing I'll be helping him with is the pesticide and fungicide type stuff.

I was a little worried that he may have bitten off more than he could chew earlier this year when he experimented with different sprouting techniques for peppers, sugar snap peas, great northern and kidney beans.
He now has around twelve pepper plants 8-10 inches high with flower buds forming and bean plants over a foot high and we're the only people I know of that are harvesting peas in Pennsylvania right now (peas that were grown by an eleven year old boy in his bedroom).
He also was experimenting with sunspot sunflowers to see if the pot size affected the plant and bloom size. He also wanted to see if the ones in the smaller pots (dixie cups) would bloom sooner since they were smaller plants. We now have 6-six inch high sunflowers in full bloom! The ones in the bigger pots are about a foot to a foot and a half high and are just now forming their flower buds. He has kept up with all the upkeep of all of these plants himself. They were all grown in his bedroom. Should be interesting to see how he does with a giant pumpkin!

If he does good with the AG's too, I just might break down and buy him a 1068 or 1502 for Christmas just to see what he can do with it ;)

I hope he doesn't grow a bigger pumpkin than me this year, that would be embarrasing! LOL!
