Well....for starters, you might go to the Seed Starting message board. Just click on the "Return to Board List" to find that forum.

Too wet is the worst thing. 85-90°F at all times.

don't soak them in 35% hydrogen peroxide. (Mistook it for a 3% bottle on a seed I won't identify a couple of weeks ago)

Don't plant them pointy side up. Don't forget to poke lots of holes in your peat pots. And don't think they're going to sprout on your windowsill. Of course I've never done any of those things. . .

hmmm... Don't forget to open those plastic bags, don't forget them soaking in the sink overnight, and DON'T - I repeat DON'T - leave them where your kids can switch their tags.. (as a 'joke' of course.)

Don't put them in wet paper towels inside plastic bags until they smell bad and get all slimy. I now start them right in the pot with a heat lamp facing them. If you can control the temperature good enough it works well.

try Joe Pukos method on starting seed.
Joe puts his seeds in 1/2 gallon ice cream containers.. the seeds are placed inside a large insulated picnic cooler with two one gallon milk jugs filled with hot tap water.with the cover closed on the cooler the temperatures get up 85-90 degrees.refill the gallon jugs with hot water every 8 hours.

Dang pap, I should have thought of that! I've been keeping oatmeal containers. Ice cream would be much more tasty. At least I get plenty of fiber LOL.

try them handwarmers that you buy at wal mart, buy the ones that last 20 hrs (shake bag and they heat), nice thing is they lay nice and flat so you can sit your container on like you do a heating mat.

Soak for 3 hours or so. Then into preheated dirt and into one of those plastic tubs from Target. Waterbed heater (very cheap on eBay) on the bottom with an elevated platform on which to put the pots. Set to keep around 85. Bowl of water in the corner to keep it humid. Check every 12 hours or so.

I think an important key is to plant in a soiless seed starting(or maybe sterilized soil) mix. Planting in regular potting soil could cause seed rot.

I'm new but, I never have trouble getting them all to come up, I place them in a cup or container, I used half gallon milk containers last year, with dirt, 1 inch down, wet, not to wet, use your head, just a little for the small seedlings. First I soak them for 4 hours in water, this year is the first year I have filed the edges, I expect them to come up evev faster. Thanks

oh yah, keep them out of the sun directly and away from the cat, and that's it, slowly as they come up start giving them more and more sun.
