DID ANYONE HAPPEN TO SEE THE PLASTIC VEGGIE MOLDS THAT EDDY Z BROUGHT TO THE NIAGARA SEMINAR?
I WAS FORTUNATE TO GET ONE OF THE FOUR DIFFERENT MOLDS THAT WERE ON DISPLAY. I GOT " THE TROLL " MOLD.
THIS YEAR IM GOING TO EXPERIMENT WITH TRYING TO GROW A COUPLE PUMPKINS AFTER STARTING THEM OUT IN THE "TROLL MOLD"
WE HAVE SEVERAL POLLINATOR PLANTS THAT WE USUALLY PULL AFTER WE ARE DONE WITH THEM BUT THIS YEAR IM GOING TO TRY AND SET 3 FRUIT ON ONE OF THE PLANTS USING THE "TROLL MOLD" AND SEE IF I CAN GET A FEW 2-300 POUND FUNNY FACES.
I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT CONVERSATION PIECE AND ALSO COULD BE USED TO RAISE SOME FUNDS FOR CHARITY AT OUR WEIGH OFF. MAY TRY AND PURCHASE A COUPLE OTHER MOLDS AS WELL.

I didn't see the mold myself, but I am gonna be doing the same thing but only out of jack o' lanterns and plastic pumpkin molds, like the ones kids use for trick or treating. I think it will be neat to have them shaped different. Well good luck on your troll molds.

Troll face, you should call my ex names, but glad you like her face mold(the troll). Her mother's mold was the angry witch.

cAPT, your lucky, sounds like your mother-in-law mold isnt that bad compared to the mold Id want for my mother-in-law. I dont think I could find a mold that the mouth moves 24/7.

I have a dozen of them...I think AG's would out grow these on day 6 0r 7. Now the smaller hard shelled gourds and pumpkina are another story.

I saw "Vegiforms" in the Lee Valley Garden Tool catalog. They have one called the Elf Vegiform. Maybe that is similar to the troll one that Pap has. Their web address is leevalley.com.

go to www.vegiforms.com
i just think they would be fun to try. not sure if the original shape would get to distorted once the fruit grew to big? hey worth a try on a left over plant , certainly not a competition fruit though. ( well possibly the second year )? lol

They were in the room we used to film the taping.

Very cool but not large enough for an AG. Probably just the right size for a Lumina or similar smaller Pepo.
Dick's idea of starting an AG in a mold then growing it on is intriquing. In 2005 some guy built a couple square wooden boxes for molds. He had them decorated as dice as I recall. That was neat too.

i always thought that if you could get your hands on a couple of those hollow plastic lawn ornaments ( example- frog- easter rabbit, etc, )that you could cut them in half ( then duc tape closed again ) and try letting an pumpkin form inside of one. just like the box idea but once the plastic piece is filled with pumpkin the plastic figure would need to be removed just something to get crazy with --- lol

Hey Dick,
Maybe Joe could make a carving in Basswood. He might need to glue up several layers to get the depth needed. Maybe make the face 18-24" or so in diameter. Coat it with marine varnish so it doesn't get wet. Screw the sucker into a wooden frame & use ratchet straps to keep it tight against the pumper. This way a large "face" can be kept in contact all summer even on a big one like you RI boys are growing.
