I have bamboo in my back yard and i was wondering does it have any nutricional value for my soil. i decays very slowly so composting it takes a while, would it be good in a chipped state, perhaps as a mulch. Anyone knows?

Bamboo is kinda low on the nutritional value. I do give some to my rabbits for snacks to munch on. They in turn give me rabbit pellet manure. Bamboo makes great mulch for bamboo and other plants. As far as breaking it down fast shredding/chipping would be the way to go. I have several types of bamboo and arundo donax. Phyllostachys aurea (Golden Bamboo), Phyllostachys aurea Koi, Phyllostachys vivax and some others I'm have not identified yet. I just rake the bamboo leaves back into my groves for multch.

theo bamboo is very hard on chippers or shredders it dulls the blades real quick otherwise it should be ok for compost though it does take a long time to break down.
