I received the seeds that I won in the raffle. Thank you Woody for mailing them, and thank you to everybody that makes such nice things possible. I have had two years of failure, but have not given up. The first year was bad because of poor planning and ignorance. Last year the heat made everything abort. I am going to try again. I went through my seed stash and pulled out the following:
1004 Demers (654 Houghton X 1133 Demers) 895 Nesbitt (805 Pukos X 723 Bobier) 968 Hajdas (1370 Rose X 842 Eaton) 978 Berard (810 Dill X 854 Berard) 574 Bechard (974 Emmons X 978 Pukos) 575 Berard (1420 Larue X 1370 Rose) 483 King (560 King X 898 Knauss) 497 Berard (703 Berard X 712 Kuhn) 654 Beachy (805 Pukos X 1097 Beachy) 518 Berard (1137 Kuhn X 887 Hampton) 444 Richardson (940 Mombert X 789 Zunino) 567 Berard (1104 Hester X 703 Berard) 597 Berard (703 Berard X 978 Berard) 577 Wolf (351 Wolf X 1407 Wolf) 658 Wolf (846 Calai X self) 498 Bechard (1133 Demers X 1133 Demers) 654 Klein (805 Pukos X 1097 Beachy) 832 Haist (1061 Haist X 520 Haist) 857 Platte (771 Stellpflug X 894 Hebb) 1009 Johnson ( 1230 Daletas X 820 Werner)
I only have room for two plants. Which ones do you guys think I should plant? Maybe one for size and one for color? Do you know if any of these are very heat tolerant? Thanks, Jody

Jody, didn't know you were still growing. Give Blase or I a call when you get a chance. we have a few growers that get together throughout the season. my # is 498-9402.
Thanks,
Matt

I grew the 575 Berard, it gave me a nice orange colored pumpkin that grew 9.4% heavy. It was a very healthy trouble free plant. It gave me a pb of 812 in my 2nd year of growing, from a pb of 183. I will be growing this seed again this year. good luck in 2007 KathyT

Hey Matt, of course I'm still growing (at least trying to). It's not like a person can just walk away from this hobby once they start! I came close to success last year. I had some beautiful starts, and then the heat wave killed them. Which seeds do you think I should try? Jody

I strongly recommend the 483 King, I think it is a sleeper. It was grown on 108 square feet, partly shaded, and has great genetics. My first year, I grew a 120 from it on 100 square feet, not promising at all except that our average summer high is 65-70. Beautiful medium-dark orange, smooth, not much ribbing, like a big Howden in shape. I can email pics off list if you want [email protected]

The 1004 Demers has grown the 1221 Demers and the 962 Demers. I started the 1004 as a back up last year and it started off faster than any of the other seeds.
