I was wondering if anyone knows where I can obtain a copy of:"Amazing Stories"
The Pumpkin Competition (1986)
I have been looking for years now and it fustrates me every time, as season 1 of amazing stories is available on dvd, but not season 2 in which this episode was made. Maybe we as growers need to flood the e mail box or boxes of the company that is withholding this episode. I think this is the best episode of all the amazing stories, but then again I am also pumpkin crazy too....lol Lets see how many others are also, and get the company to release this episode, as it will relieve some pumpkin stress by watching it...lol

This is the description from the link above:

During the annual pumpkin competition, a mean old lady loses once again to her arch-nemesis (who happens to be very nice), so when she is approached by a professor who claims to have a potion to create super-sized vegetables, she jumps at the chance. The only problem is that she is a bit tight with her money, and he wants ten thousand dollars for the secret. She gives him five thousand, and he grudgingly accepts.

Thinking she got the best of the deal, she goes through the year and grows her large pumpkin, then bets her nemsis her estate and bank account that she will win. The other lady doesn't want to, but eventually accepts. Then as the contest nears, she can't get her pumpkin there. So she stakes it and ties it to the back of the car, and tows it all the way to the fairgrounds. As she gets there, only the top is left, but she figures it is still big enough to win.

Only then does she see the other entries - they are huge - at least as big as her pumpkin was originally - and she finds out that the professor asked the other townsfolk for the remaining five thousand dollars to complete his research, and they gladly made up the difference. Nicely done.

The only problem is that, and he wants LongBeard to grow big and orange growing totally organic. Ron gives LongBeard five magic 1068 seeds from Ole Paps secret pile, and LongBeard grudgingly accepts. 400 SF, I have a copy on VHS tape but unfortunately the quality is only fair. Howard Shelley (CA grower)who recorded it when it aired back in 1986 made me a copy about 5 years ago. I think that Howard must have used the slow EP speed....... as I recall, my copy is grainy.
Steven Spielberg was the Executive Producer of this TV classic.
The link that Borer posted shows it is available on DVD but you gotta buy the other 44 episodes to get it.

I remember the episode when it aired. The thing that bothered me the most was the old lady had to drag the pumpkin behind her and it was like 1/2 gone when she got to the competition. For some reason it really bothered me she destroyed that pumpkin.
