At the NHGPGA lunch last Sunday Ron Wallace was guest speaker. He told us about a pumpkin he lost a couple of years back to fusarium, the fluid inside was pink. The county agricultural agent I was setting next to confirmed that a vine, stem,or pumpkin lost with a pink fluid inside is an indicator of Fusarium. Thought I'd pass it on. Hope none of you ever see pink or red in your patch!

Pap, do you have any suggestions on how to control fusarium? Our group of growers here in Virginia are looking for a solution to the problem.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark, here's a good start.

Root Shield works well when added to the seed starter and into the initial planting area as well.

additional sprinklings of mycorrhizae/nutrients added during vine burying also helps( a lot).

Dont over water the plants, dont water after 5 pm or back off as much as possible during humid weather conditions.

I Would not use any quick release nitrogen fertilizers if at all possible.

Peat moss and /or saw dust added into the soil can help as well.

Early spring apply on soil a granular fungicide called clearys 3336, or chipco water soluable 26019 ( thats the one we use during the season, especially after rain or during humid spells) plus there are many more on the market.

Also othere are severalsprays that need to be made during the season
