Ok live in ri and looking to join a club. Are they the same or rival clubs? Both seem to cover RI.

Not rivals. Just two different groups with two different weigh-offs. There are several others in New England. The last time I checked I was a member of both fine groups.

NEGPGA is sort of an "all New England" association. They weigh-off at Topsfield.
SNEGP is "Southern New England" but based in RI. They weigh-off at Freirich's Farm. The new world record 1502 was weighed there this past fall.
I'm the president of CTGS&PGA which is logically in CT but we have members from all over the country.
NHGPGA is the New Hampshire group. There are also growers associations in Maine & Vermont.

we belong to all the new england clubs. we attend all the weigh offs and have friends from all that visit us as well.
suggest though that if you live in ri and want to become aquainted with the excellent growers we have then ri and our fall weigh off at frerichs farm would be a closer fit for you
but they are all excellent organizations

I think it would be in your best interest to join them both.

You will benefit from any seminars each of them have along with other club perks, infomational bulletins and open yourself up to meeting other friendly pumpkin growers.

I do not belong to the NEGPGA but am a member of the SNGPG and have found them to be a TOP NOTCH group of people who provide superb resources to help you have that extra edge in your patch.
I am looking forward to renewing my membership with the SNGPG each year for as long as I will be able to plant a pumpkin seed.

Dick, Steve and Steve are all right. Having clubs located in different geographical areas can only help the growers. If problems and or questions arise you will be more apt to have someone near by that can have a hands on view of your problems/questions and help with a solution. Many a summer night has past when a quick "patch peek" takes place for a fellow grower who may (God Forbid) be out of town for a day or two. It's nice to know people in your area got your back for everything from "I need some pollen to I need a hand with.....). Not to mention It's a great excuse to have multiple summer picnics! Hey any excuse to sit around drink beer and talk pumpkins works for me! It's also nice to go to each others weigh off's. If you have ever been involved with running a weigh of it gets very hectic, so it's nice to "go to" a weigh off and be a participant, plus if you have more than one pumpkin in the patch it grants you the opportunity to display your accomplishment.
