Thw water pipes in the kitchen were froze up when we got up. The horse water was solid and the heater was shorted out because it froze solid so we been outside breaking ice and hauling hot water back out and put in new heater with a better wind break and cover.4 more days of this then maybe things will turn for the better.

A couple weeks ago, my brothers and I got to talking about how could it was in the late 60's. Mom had a calender that was more like a diary, so we got it out. She had several years listed where it never got above zero for 14/15 days at a time. There was one listing where she said it had to be the coldest ever in Central Iowa, with the wind chill it was a -80 degrees. These warm temps now must be due to global warming!!!!! For those of you around at that time, do you remember all of the problems we had starting cars early in the mornings. Even the water heaters didn't help on some mornings. I also remember getting up several times during the night to start the cars up to warm them up. The big question now is "Why did I stay in Iowa?"

As a wee lad I remember a true -52F,,no wind chill back in those days. Being a wee lad, I had to get fully dressed to step out on the porch and spit just to see if it froze before it hit the ground.
and they call those the "good old days" ???
Yes it did for those of you that are wondering,,,more important I think is WHY would you have a thermometer that went that low !!!
I have to get a plan together for heading south in the winters.

OH Dear I feel for all you people that feel the cold. Today we had a high temperature of 78dg at 3:00 pm. Our Lowest temp has been in the low 40's. It is still cold for me when I leave at 4:00am to go to work. I take water samples of the Pacific Ocean along the Southern California line where the water is warmer than the air. But by 10:00 am the air is in the 60"s during the winter season. I live 35 miles from, Las angles,7 miles to the Pacific ocean and 100 miles from the Mexico border.

Sounds like you guys back east are finally getting what we here in Colorado have been dealing with since before Christmas...lol. We finally hit 55 Degrees here today, warmest day in months, and it barely put a dent in all the permafrost ice piles that are everywhere, including the roof of the house and driveway. I better shut up or the wrath of cold and snow might return, It's been a long winter

I don't go to Florida. I'd rather sit here and suffer. That way it feels so good when it goes away. :)
