If I remember right, I think I asked this before but I don't remember what the answer was. I promise this time that I'll print out your answers and store them away for later reference. JUST WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GIANT PUMPKIN AND A SQUASH?
Wish it was spring so that I can get my seeds in the ground. It got down to a minus 10 degrees here in Iowa last night, sometimes I wonder why my wife and I decided to say in Iowa many years ago.

Pumpkin = pretty orange, white, cream, salmom, yellow or a combination of all four.

Squash = ugly solid green/blue/grey or combination
(lol just kidding ive seen some pretty grn squash)

For ease in judging COMPETITION the gpc rules classify solid blue/green/grey (or combination there of ) as squash
all others are considered pumpkins.

Before these color rule changes were put into play it was to difficult and to many arguments came about when judges were to consider percentages of green when judging pumpkins from squash.

Of course money and site standing came into play as well, so there were arguments and black eyes everywhere. Whos showing favorites with percentages ,etc, etc, it all came into play.

BESIDES WHOS TO SAY A ACCURATE PERCENTAGE OF FOR EXAMPLE GREEN AREAS ON AN OTHERWISE ORANGE PUMPKIN????

So the above ruling was the next best thing. It has worked as these type arguments are now pretty much non existent.

if memory serves me correctly at the time the 1367 was judged it had enough green to qualify as a squash. under todays gpc standard it would not be considered a squash.
still a remarkable accomplishment either way.
