The photos for google earth are from different dates and at different resolutions. I was just curious if anybody has located a pumpkin patch yet. At the highest resolution, a big pumpkin should be visible.

Ah, I've long thought of posing this question, "Can anyone of us identify a giant pumpkin on Google Earth?" It would seem that a photo that was taken in August through October would have a chance, unless it was covered by tarps or something like that.
The images for my area were taken last spring, and the resolution isn't that good.

i can see my patch on google earth!!! the placement of the patch is how i figured out what year the pic was taken (2003)
:)
however, no luck on "seeing" a giant pumpkin. i can see 3 tarps up but even if they were not up, the resolution would probably not show a pumpkin.

In my patch you can see the first hoop house of the year. Pic seems two years old taken in late April

With a goal line chalk dispencer and some cornmeal,,you could lay out some cool graphics or messages in the patch! You would have to have google do a resample,,if they do that..

Christy and Pumpkineer, Is there a way you can direct the rest of us to find the photos? I'm only marginally familiar with how Google Earth works, and don't know whether you can save a particular zoon shot, for instance.

Type your address into the search feature of Google Earth & the view will zoom down to your house. I wish GE would do some resampling but they are very slow to update their images. Half our town was most recently photographed on a partly cloudy day. Where the cloud becomes a problem the images defaults back to a very old & rough scan.

Wow! I can see enough to know my patch is on there. All I need do is spend $400 for the finest upgrade. That will no doubt show me both the plant and the fruit. Zooming in just left me with the real drunken birds eye view of home sweet home, for the first time. :)))

Looking over the satellite images, I don'tthink they take many in the fall. . .seems like mostly spring photos

i thought it was funny ironic-! ...that this post was started on friday the 2nd - whereas, i spent a good bit of time just the day before- on that thursday the 1rst Actually doing just this!
(ha hA! (Pssst* i was at work,... i started out researching something else- but ended up sidetracked- (into what eLse?...ha hA! ->looking at mine and some other's pumpkin patches- plus checking out a few known manure piles...and scouting some future pumpkin boat river runs!.. ha hA!

AnYwAys, on the Google Earth- i cAn make out my patch- and even see what are some of my compost pallet bins...
On our Maine GIS i can actually make out what is a blue tarped-over huge leafpile i had on the edge of the patch in 04'-05' timeframe...
of course, i know what i'm looking at- might be hard for someone else to decipher...
OH!... you can also- (if you dont have the google earth downloaded- simply go to google, hit on the maps selection at the top and then select hybrid... it gives you the reference of the road names with the satelite pics so that you can make yer way around as you explore...

ive only looked at nearby local patches that i know so far... but, will have to start checking out some of the addresses on the bubble-envelopes next! ha hA! should be interesting! dated patch-tours by space! heh~heh!
ha hA! thinK about it!- if you have the space- (doesnt have to be too much- we could even start putting out some "GAS" ground-to-air signals (not discernable from the ground- but plainly visible to the sky) messages for our fellow growers to find- for when they do the next update!
what you use for a gas is limited to your immagination and what you have available... could be flowers or plants- corn? sunflowers? planted in a way... or certain strip alongside- message mowed... or fixed objects arranged... food fer thought.. one more wintertime diversion added to the list huh! ha hA! ENNNJOYyyy~!

Dorknob and other growers To see my patch, in Google Earth type in my address: 910 South River st Marshfield, Ma 02050. Because of the peculiar shape of my lot, the patch will be at the 2:00 o clock position off the address mark bordered by the woodline, a side street off the main road, and an angled fence line. let me know if you see it
