looks like they aborted early can be : poor pollination, or too hot at pollination time, or high nitrogen, or some other stress like dry, disease, pests
is Alicante an island climate? what are your daytime high temp pollination time?

Lots of reasons for rot -->poor plant health--low plant sugars due to not right kinds of foods or not enough food-- all above opens plant and pumpkin up to diease and bugs which both can smell and find in a flash--look at bread mold--if you keep the air dry you dont----but damp and warm it show up in a day-- Spraying foliar feeds are a VERY AFFECTIVE WAY to help all things that go on in a plant and pumpkins life---craig--

"Pathogen" is the cause of a disease. In this case maybe a fungus disease like "fusarium". The fungus spores (pathogen) may be splashed up from soil by irrigation or rain water.
High temperatures can cause the young fruits to die.
Rain during pollination can cause failure.

Jose...Based on your other beautiful gardens...I think it is the heat. If you could give us more of what your daily summer averages are I am sure we could get a better understanding. Is it the pumpkins only, or do your other vegetable have this problem. Shannon

Hello Shannon friend: If, long ago heat in Alicante. But the pumpkins please of the heat. Judias, tomatos, peppers, etc, etc. do not have problems. It is possible that the seeds are not good... I hope of Duchezeau (France) and another friend of the USA. Thanks to all the friends of the giant pumpkins. Jose Luis.
