I would appreciate anyone from Ohio to tell me when they plant. I only plant direct so i would like to hear from direct planters. my location is N.E. Ohio. Slow and steady wins the race! Thank you

Get in touch with Pumkinhead ( you should find his email on other posts on this sight.) He is from central Ohio and has had great success growing giants. I'm a 2nd year grower from Ohio myself, and his knowledge and insight have been invaluable.

I am planning on starting my seeds May 5 this year. This will be two weeks later than last year. With the heat of Ohio i feel a Smaller plant is better. It loses less water though evaporation and is easier to keep cool. This dater also give 60 days of plant growth Which will give you a good size plant. Then you will have 80 to 95 day for fruit growth. If you average 12 pounds a day you get between a 1020# and 1140# pumpkin. Either of these weights will do for me. I hope this helps and good luck in the patch. John Columbus, Ohio

I'm planting early in hopes of setting fruit before it gets to hot last year I had hard time getting pumpkins to set because of the extreme conditions we experienced last year Ifeel you need to se3t fruit before July 4 that should put you on time for the Canfield weighoffs Ernie

Last year I set pumpkins through the hot weather by using the ice method to keep the new female flower cool. I only lost one fruit to abort and it was on a side vine. This year I plan on setting the first fruit then giving it time to make sure that it does not abort then i am terminating almost all the vines. My plan is to have smaller but healther plants. I will see what happens. I feel confident about this decission after talking to George Lloyd earlier this year. John
