As a rule of thumb, it's someone different every year. Top grower from the USA who I think has an excellent shot at is Quinn Werner. My second pick would be Pierre Slusarek from Canada.

Someone who is very quiet may be back this year and on soil that has been nurtured and pampered for the past three years. He is a dark horse any year he grows. :)))

Captain Cold, the 1009.2 colo record was set in 2000. Here is a link to pictures when Madman and myself were at the patch where it was grown. It will be 7 years this growing season, and I agree the record needs to tumble...We'll see..As Tom B says in his quote..lol

Whoever it is, my guess is it will be grown from their own seed - it has been the trend the last 4 years.
2006 - 1502 Wallace - 1068 2005 - 1469 Checkon - 1354 2004 - 1446 Eaton - 842 2003 - 1385 Daletas - 783
So, how many of you will be growing your own seed stock now?

Here is a little fuel for the NW. The Handy's, Hester's, Daletas's, Rivard's, Bortner, Blalock took the year off in 2006. Sherwood had a down year, Larue is due, and the newbie firepower of Leland, Parsons, and Fisher, oh and darest I say Holland, Pugh and Van Kooten. Yes, Yes, beware the NW.

I'll guess the record won't be broken. I guess the largest pumpkin in 2007 will be grown by Mr. Slusarek, with wt. of 1456 lbs.
