Second storm is heading into Colorado with another possible heavy snow fall, frankly Im a bit overwhelmed and tired of the free nitrogen. My NANA of 99 years young passed away Christmas eve, she started me off gardening when I was five years old giving me seeds, teaching me and providing a spot to grow at their property. She came over on a boat at the age of 5 in 1912 thru Ellis island with her 8 other brothers and sisters, never been to a day of school, but was quite literary, used words like compulsory and was a coal miners daughter. From a family of gardeners they helped take care of caretakers by growing their vegatables and making bread in a solar oven, in exchange for meat or favours. I loved to listen to here stories of old.....and how they survived without the likes of running water, electricity, forced air heat, TV or a computer, she never learned to drive a vehicle but described her first encounter of the horseless carriage,,,,,, She never gave up and even after Pompo died 24 years ago, she lived and strived to make everyone smile, until these last few weeks. I will miss her dearly, ThanksGiving Eve my other grandmother died also of 94 years young...... Im letting my friends and family on BP know as I want to thank you all for your support during these times....I hope all is well with you and your familys..... if not, make it so, time is short, even if you live for 99 years......

Peace to you all...........Take Care
Gary

Gary, It sounds like you lost a wonderful friend in Nana. Losing one loved one near a major holiday is tough. Losing two is so much harder. My deepest sympathy & my prayers.

Please don't dwell on what you've lost. Instead thank God for what you were given. 94 & 99 years is a long time to learn and it sounds like they both imparted some fine values on you. It is your turn to now share those values with a new generation.

I've been right where you are....it gets easier. I promise.

Sorry for you losses Gary,,you've done your NANA well with your ever improving gardening skills and the zeal you seem to throw into everything you strive to accomplish.

You and your's are in my thoughts.

Gary, sorry to hear of you loss. Nana sounds like a neat lady and one that I'm sure you have very fond memories with.

With the long life lines in your family, sounds to me like you've got another 50 years to grow pumpkins and smash that Colorodo record several times in memory of Nana. I'm looking forward to cheering you on for many many years.

Your friend/Glenn

I too feel your pain, Nana wasn't just your grandma - but also sounds like your first gardening mentor... I lost my Papa/gardening mentor this year as well - he was 94 years young.

I still feel him looking over my shoulder and giving me advice as I set up new garden areas. I hope you hear her voice again during the spring planting season.
