The 1533 was grown this past season in Turkmenistan by A.G. (sorry, can't mention his real name for security reasons). A.G. was given orders by the (now late) president Saparmurad Niazov to grow an entire field of giant pumpkins along the border with Uzbekistan, who constantly try to take over the north of Turkmenistan because of the oil lines running though there. In the fall Turkmenistan soldiers would hollow out the pumpkins and crawl into them so they could spy across the border, looking for any suspicious behaviour on the part of the Uzbekistanis. The 1533 was not the biggest pumpkin (the weight is unofficial because it had been hollowed out already), as two larger pumpkins received direct hits from Uzbeki soldiers before they could be weighed.

Herbie, there were tons of seeds (taken out to make room for the soldiers) but I doubt if they will ever find their way to America or ever be sold. Rumour has it the soldiers roasted them and ate them.

Although the weight is not true, the story itself is not totally inaccurate according to reports I have been hearing. Pumpkins have apparantly also been used to hide explosives in. And Saparmurad Niazov officially instituted the Day of the Melon in Turkmenistan.

Brad, are the turkmenistan losing the war? If not they ought to be, How could you not miss a 1500 lb pumpkin sitting in the middle of the field with a bunch of guys sitting init with their guns hanging out,LOL, I think Id find a better place to hide then a bright or big yellowish orange 1500 lb pumpkin. Even if there wasnt the enemy inside, how could you resist not blowing it up anyway,lol.

It's all Glenn's fault & he likes cheese. He gave cheese & seeds to woman in New Jersey named Jill. She grew a 1733 lb All-Green-Monster but some freak who didn't like cheese got mad & flew it into a building. You might find a seed or two in any number of tri-state area gutters but since the wind was blowing southeast many have washed up on the shores of Cucurbistan where giant greenies have been sprouting on the beach. Alas due to his cheese fetish G was denied a visa by the Cucurbistan consulate & dwells in the house of Fusaria instead.

Tremor I heard a story similar to yours along time ago, back when us kids had barely enough beer to drink, it was back when I was younger at age 10 or 11, I think,, Well I do know it was back in the olden days, it was about the time when I had to walk barefooted in the snow backwards to get to the detention center for kids. We had no buses that would pick us up for a ride then, because the bus drivers knew us.,,, I mean there wasn’t any motor vehicles back then. It was back when all my memories where clear and still to this day have a lot of great memories of my girlfriend and I, It was when I was 11 yrs old and she was 44 yrs old,,,, god bless here soul.
Sorry, Ill have to finish this story later, Im starting to tear up a bit at the moment and cant see to type. Ill try to finish this story later .That’s if I can be strong and talk about my late Fiancee who slipped on the wet kitchen floor in her tiny apartment.. They found out later cause of death was because of no water, what had happened was the single plastic strap that your big toe holds the flip flop to her foot broke which in return made her have a horrific bad fall and broke her hip, and she layed there for a week with no help untill dehydration got the best of her.. I still blame myself for not changing the batteries in her ‘’ Ready alert beeper'' I blame myself everday she couldnt hit that button and say like the lady in the comercial said that saved her life ’‘ help I’ve fallen and I cant get up.’‘ Its still hard to this day to watch that on TV.
Sorry I forgot what I was going to say and got off track, I better go now

The real story behind the 1458 Whittier is that it was cut and weighed in Aug. of 03. He went on to win Topsfield later that year with a 1301. And yes he has seeds. Bill

and i thought the guy who accidently found a 1,000 pounder growing over his stone wall was lucky. whew, theres no accounting for what can happen these days. several years ago a guy we knew was busy building his house and had no time for his pumpkin patch. he put the seeds in ( so he claimed ) and never tended them at all. went back to the patch three months later and had a 1.000 pounder. boy, i guess that means if i stopped working on my 1,450 last summer i might have grown a 1650? lol pap

I forgot to mention my late older girlfriends name, her name was Mildred, her pet name was 'Miggie', She grew pumpkins to ya know, some close to 1800lbs or more, she started her seeds outside in Ohio here in December, the - 0 cold never bothered her. Ill never forget that pretty little frail women outside weeding in her moon boots. She was a great grower, God I loved her so.

"1533 = 21 Beachy x 125 Wolf"
Thanks Dutch Brad for the idea. I might actually try a cross like that this year. I have a 21 Beachy x 1370 Rose seed I think I will do one cross with it, with the 125 Wolf.
