This is my 3rd year of growing A.G. I start them in side and when they get 6-8 inchs tall I put them out side in the grownd in a small green house.Shortly after the main stem split almost the whole lenth then it grows normal. The first 2 year I thought that it was normal I grue a 330 frist year and a 433 the next. But last year it was really wet here in the N.W. and my plant didnt spilt untill 6ft. long and it started to rot.So I had to cut it almost back to the main root, but i still got a 200ld. Is the spilt normal?

HI BOB. JOHN HERE LAST YR. I grew a plant that i.ve been growing for 3 or 4 yrs. (same seed line)i.ve had mutent blossems a couple of times 10 lobes inside female blossems. This past season i got a ribbon vine. A flat double vine that when i cut it or deadheaded it at the last leaf node. it grew a normal vine (round).I don,t know if when you get a vine split it,s from the same seed you,ve been growing for yrs but some times genetics play a big role. If its the same seed that splits each yr. you might want to try a different gene line or seed.I,ve had stem splits before it doesnt or dident effect my plant but when i get them i bury the split part so bugs and disease dont crawl into the vine. Well good luck in 2000 John G

Hi Bob,
This is my first year and I have had one of my two plants to do exactly as you described....to split into two equal vines about 3 feet out. You say you have grown a 400+ pounder from a split vine, so I'm just gonna leave mine alone. I was told to cut it off and nurture a secondary vine into the "main" vine. It's my first year and I only have two plants, so I'm not cutting anything this early.
Let me know if you learn any more about these so called "split" vines.
