Hi..I would suggest plowing, hiring, and fertilizing the same way if you was gonna just grow all corn for a patch that size. You probably could then plant about 3or4 pumpkin seed in mounds spaced from 20-25 feet apart. Also be sure to spray for bugs and plant diease probably on a weekly basis.

Hey Biterma!
I suggest you first obtain a copy of Don Langevin's "How to grow a Giant Pumpkin". There are 2 volumes, both are good. These are considered by many to be the "Bible" of Giant Pumpkin growing. Also try to join a local organization of growers, our Ohio Valley Growers hold two seminars, (a beginners and an advanced) in late winter, early spring.By talking with other growers, you'll learn a lot, this will also help you to obtain good seeds. You're at the beginning of a wonderful journey, there are some "potholes" out there, but just remember to enjoy yourself!

Hey Biterma! I know your situation...kilrpumpkins suggests the right thing to get you going. The book will do you wonders, I suggest you purchase both issues. There are tons research you can do also during the slow months [if you are not too busy trying to clone pumpkin plants...more on that down the road, one thing at a time]. I have just recently joined the Ohio Valley Growers myself, since Colorado does not even have a weigh off site. You will either have a blast growing them, or spend 9 years wondering why you do it anyway {LOL} Madman

you've been given good advice about the books seminars and talking with other growers if you have one of the heavy hitters near you ask to see the patch while the pumpkin is growing so you can see how to do it or modify it to your patch
