Does everyone compost them and till them back into the garden? I have lots from just one plant.

They spread that much disease or is it pests?

If they show signs of disease then "yes", burn baby burn.
But if the vines are still free of insects & disease you can till them under.

Actually Powdery Mildew spores are not spread in this way. Just a few days without green live plant tissue & the PM spores die. ALL Powdery Mildew spores are air-borne. NONE live in soil.
Fusarium, Rhizoctonia & Phytophthora diseases should burn.
If Bacterial wilts are a concern then I'd burn them too. Not because the wilt survives but because the insects that harbor them should burn.

I've always felt that the plants are similar to the livestock - in both cases it's not wise to 'feed' the same species back to itself..... I either throw the vines/rotting 'kins into the back pastures (after scraping seeds out) or compost them for use in the front flower/herb gardens...
Anything showing possible disease is generally thrown in our burn pit....

I had to pick all of my jack-o-lanterns last night. Powdery mildew took every plant down. Haven't had a chance to spray with fungicide. Lots of vines to go to the burn pile now.
My lone AG has no PM at all. I will still spray him when I get the chance.
