I would be interested in knowing the where's and whys of the best geographical place to grow AG's . I have noted that the Pacific growers do quite well, but yet there the success of the east coast too. I'm sure Mother Nature's temperament has a lot to do with it, hail and freezes, ect. Does Length of season trump, average temps? If one had 150 days to grow does the kin stop after a certain amount of days? I know Larry said he had so many immature seeds....

personally i like the warm beautiful early fall weather we get in southern new england. it speaks well for growers needing an extra week or so to ge later pollinated fruit to its maximum.
pacific north west and left coast states also have a normally great area to grow in. years ago we all wondered why the best growers came out of canada ? dont forget we have seen world record pumpkins come from anywhere and everywhere. (ohio - pa - some day it will be flordia or the carolinas )
cant foget any state or country for that matter though. its all dependent on two things 1. quality of care ( experience and dedication) 2. mother nature ( #1 determinator and/or terminator )
if i had to move anywhere just to grow pumpkins id have to pick southern california. warm springs , late falls, great weather most of the year. who could ask for more ?

Colorado has its perks.....normally we have 4 seasons, one could experience them all in one day....and summer can follow winter then spring then fall. the freeze kills most of the bugs...we have had an odd year.....very warm very early, yet last week we had troubles just getting over 80 with 1/2- 1" of rain daily 2/ 1/2 total for the 4 days. Ill keep my eye open for that seem to be perfect fit for growing those AG's.......Sooner or later it will come

Pa. is my guess, 1469 lbs worth. But id say roughly 70% is up to grower care probably.

I think the best place to grow pumpkins is where a grower chooses to take the time and care to plant one. It is not all about weight. Although we all dream of having the record. Or kicking you know whos butt at a weigh off.

Wiz, I would like to think the best place to grow would be in Longbeards backyard patch.
Oh never mind I just woke up. I've been dreaming again.-------LB

You can't argue with the numbers. RI must be a pretty good spot. I think the grower's network may have something to do with it.

The weather is variable from year to year, Last year, RI did remarkabley well. This year, another area may shine. As the story goes, "the BS stops when the tailgate drops"! That's what makes our sport so remarkable.....no one knows for sure who is going to win. With so many pumpkins going "light", disappointment abounds at each weigh=off.

Yo LB, I know how to make your patch better......drill 1/2 inch holes in those logs growing out of your back yard and fill them with 2-4D :)- next year youll grow big.....or you could wait till next year and we'll plant those our seeds at the nursery in May.......I cant wait for next year....I like RI too and there's a part in Seattle around the rain forest....Hmmmmmm....D@mn Hail.....I found two more fmales last nite .....yeaH!

I know for certain that there are several Growers here in the UK that could grow near to 1,400 Lb'er's or maybe more. Give us access to all those growing 'Goodies' available in the USA & Canada, and at a reasonable price, and UK Pumpkin & Squash weights would increase dramaticly.
