I am of the white sheet/towel variety when it comes to protecting a fruit however, I don't have a clue when I should begin.....I'm sitting on a "beach ball" right now with a heat index in the upper nineties...
Any additional shading advice would be greatly appreciated as well.
Many Thanks;
Jamie

Just as soon as the canopy does not shade the fruit.

yes, I shade from day 1. Heat and sun like this can't be good for the little guys.

If you put a towel over your pumpkins when they are small they also won't get scratched up by the leaves, besides being protected from the sun. When they are small a little scratch becomes a big blemish later on.

Thanks for the reminder Vineman! I recall a fruit last year that my three old tried to climb in late July...he left a flip flop mark from top to bottom on one side.....I really cherished that one! The mark was still there in October and I could clearly distingush the shape of his shoe where he first dug in. LMAO!
