Are slow secondarys genetic or environmental?

I'm thinking genetic... I've got 2 dozen GP/GS from many different lines - In the same patch this year... Some are VERY aggressive with their secondary development - others are not.. Those that are sister plants from the same Pumpkins - are all developing at the same rate/pattern..
Same patch - same year - same weather.... So the difference must be more genetically based.

Or directional...my second set of plants...are both growing secondaries much stronger on the east side, as compared to the west...all plants growing north to south...is the directtion compared to the sun a factor...??? Peace, Wayne

Fascinating observation! I'm going to pay attention to that when I go to my patch today!
I've got 1/2 growing South-to-North.. 1/4 growing West-to-east.. 1/4 growing East-to-West.... So I'm going to see if the same is holding true here!

The leaves will tilt to the sun no matter what the directon, of the vine growth. Left alone the vines will grow 360 and 7, on top of and under the worst mess you have ever seen.

Wayne. Ditto on my plant. 1ft on East. 1inch on West. Fascinating!
