There seems to be a lot of talk about pruning vines lately. It also seems to me that people are mixing terminology. Pruning to one person seems to mean cutting off the secondary at the main vine...to allow ventilation and access to main vine. Pruning to others seems to mean termination of vine at desired length or edge of growing area. Is there a definite set of terms for us to use. As always...thanks for all responses. Peace, Wayne

Wayne, I believe pruning is any cutting/pinching off on the pumpkin plant, be it culling pumpkins, pinching tertiary growth, terminating vines etc. It's a very general term.

I've often thought that "pruning" a vine at the desired length is commonly referred to as dead heading or terminating said vine.
