Have one vine that has split in half at the base. It is still a very vigorous grower compared to the others....
Trying to save it - I've stripped the leaves off the vine from the 2'-4' portion - and have buried this portion to try and get a second rooting.
How long until there is sufficient roots on this portion to support the vine?

i did the same thing intentionally when pruning a plant about 3 years ago-----and last year with a squash plant-----growing a plant as an entirely other entity (a cutting) merely off of its leaf-node rootings... i would say perhaps 3 rooted leaf nodes would be sufficient to SUSTAIN the vine itself and anything more than that would be better of course, if there is a fruit on it----eric g

if the vine is still attached to the main plant there should be no real 'waiting period'. the secondary rooting you are causing will just continue to benefit the vine itself and the main plant, and after about 1.5 weeks if you wanted to you could little by little sever this vine from the main plant if that is part of your pruning strategy. eric g
