I measured the size of the enclosure that my pumpkins are growing in, 10x18'. I was wondering if someone could tell me how many plants would be appropriate for that size enclosure. I have 6 seedlings started out there and that just seems like too many. I have a 1/4 acre backyard so I might just transfer some into a bigger spot.

I plant two seedlings into each enclosure but will eventually cull one of them. I grew two plants in the space for one last year and it requires alot of work to keep them apart. I will not ever do it again. Ideally each plant would have about 1000 square feet but I have heard of people growing big pumpkins in 300 to 400 square feet (with heavy pruning). Also, pumpkin seedlings do not transplant well so you don't want to be moving them around once you put them in the ground.
