When moving a pumpkin to get the proper stem angle perpendicular to the vine. NEVER do it in the morning ALWAYS do it in the late afternoon. The stem is very soft and much more flexible in the afternoon. When I move a pumpkin I only do it on warm afternooons. I never move it more than a quarter of an inch per a day. How do I keep it in place after I move it? I move sand around the base of the pumpkin then I drive a stake in the ground next to the pumpkin BE CAREFUL doing this then I use soft foam rubber to support the pumpkin as it leans on the stake. Go very slow so you dont snap off the pumpkin be patient you have plenty of time. Never water prune or fertilize on the same day you will split your pumpkins very fast if you do. Allow at least 5 days between I even allow more. Never fertilize before heavy rain this can split them as well. Good luck in 2000.
