so, how did everyone on this list do? amy, good job with your 788, congrats! i guess you took care of those dirty rats! I finished first at the amagansett gpc weighoff (long island) although i would have prefered to do it on a much grander scale. but there's not much i can do about cool summer temps, lots of rain, and plenty of sunless skies. i guess i wasnt' the only one who had the same problem as weights seemed to be down where i am. came in at 547#, it's an 887 orr X 935 lloyd, and it weighed 13.48% heavy to the charts. so at least that part i was happy about. i usualy grow light ones!

so, lets hear about eveyone else....

I took my 472.5 from Durham, CT to Topsfield where it weighed an official 466 lbs. This is my personal best.

This was enough to get me 47th place. Not too bad for a second year grower with limited time...

Iris, 762 lbs, off the 788 wentzell x open pollinated(was pollinated with an AG i do not know the genetics for or grower, very orange pumpkins, all around 400 lbs) The seed from the 762 should grow very nice orange pumpkins.

Whitey, 627.5 lbs, 787 kline x 788 Wentzell, the wentzells are going to grow one of these, i think it has potential....good cross

both pumpkins weighed about 30 lbs heavy!!

I hope i can get another 700 lber next year.

Hi group!

Seemed like a uphill battle this year, pumpkins all stopped growing on Sept. 10. My best was only 478#, and my wife's was 400.5#. I took them both to the weigh-off at Ohio Valley anyway to give Dave Stelt's 1140# er some "perspective"! You don't always have to place or win a new truck or $25,000, to have one heluva good time!

next year, sky's the limit!

I weighed my pumpkin at the local grain elevator. It weighed in at 487 lbs. It was estimated at 521, after lifting it up I discovered it had a concave bottom which is probably why it wieghed light. I suppose there is not much to do about that. It was enough to make a new Idaho state record. This was my second year growing these things and I'm already planning on next year.

Hey gang . Just want to congratulate all the growers on this web site who got a pumpkin to the scales this year. I personally had no luck with the generic seeds I grew, they are just average sized pumpkins. But I don't consider my year a total loss as I learned a great deal from all the growers on this web sight.
I went to my first weigh-off in Port Elgin Ontario and what a turn out they had ...200 giant pumpkins. I bought Don Langevin book and have read it cover to cover and I have already prepared my new patch for next year. It is 40x60 and has 6 pickup truck of cow manure on top. My biggest lesson learned this year is you have to have good seeds. This I learned to late, it doesn't matter how much you water ,fertilize and care for your plants.
P.S My husband who had no interest in my pumpkin hobby told his friends he wants to grow a ag next year, I guess Port Elgin change his mind. lol
Once again Congratulations
Sherry

My biggest this year and my new personal best was 604 at the Durham Fair in CT. I tried to bring this pumpkin to Topsfield but the bottom split open on the way and I was disqualified. My stomach knotted right up when I opened the tailgate of my truck in the Topsfield barn and the tarp was soaking wet.

I got my personal best, 752lbs. I was lucky and finished 9th at Half Moon Bay. I grew the 837 Waller. I am also thinking of next year. Good job this year everyone, and better luck next year. It has been fun!

Hello Everyone! We grew our first Atlantic Giants this year. Named the two we got Uncle Sam and Jodi. Uncle Sam was entered in the Durham Fair weigh off and placed 11th of the 15 that made it to the competition -- Officially 230 lbs. We were so proud of ourselves. We are in the process of drying out the seeds for next year at this time. Ken -- We looked for your name on the Topsfield placings and wondered what happened to your beautiful big pumpkin -- So sorry to hear how it split open during the ride there. But we saw it in one piece at Durham, and we know you would have made a fine showing. We will be watching you and John next year -- 1,000 lbs. or bust!
