yesterday i was digging my pit, and its about 100 ft away from my septic tank, and i dug into the gravel where the drain field is for my tank, and i was wondering if it would be ok to dig farther. the pit is bout 1 to 1 1/2 ft deep.

Don't mess with the drain feild gravel. You're down deep enough. Pumpkins are mainly in the top 10 inches of soil.

Idiot, your plant won't get roots down deep enough to get much nutrients from your septic(atleast if your septic is up to code). Concern yourself with getting nutrients into top 10" of topsoil. Personally I feel going the pit way is a waste of time/energy. Not awhole lot of the serious growers choose that route. Get your nutrients into your topsoil throughout your patch and you'll do better than digging a pit. Steve
