Anybody ever had experience using compost from the local sewage treatment plant? They mix leaves with the final product that leaves the plant and end up with the finest topsoil you've ever seen. I'm wondering if this is a better choice Than leaves to add to the garden?

Tim, I got some last fall from the sewage treatment plant near my home town. I'm also from New York. Did they give you a form that says: Descripition of Compost? I wouldn't use alot of it. One thing you have to watch out for is the Mercury in it. Also the Fecal Coliform. In New York under the D.E.C. laws, they Recommend only 1/2 to 1 inch of this on a garden. Where I got mune from, they use wood chips and not leaves. I would visit your near by treatment plant and ask for a copy of the Composting paper work they have to give you and you must sign when you get it. Also, you CAN'T use alot of this on a garden and eat the vegtables.
